The 15 Best Sailing and Catamaran Trips on the Riviera Maya

41 tours reviewed

A catamaran day is the most reliable good weather you will buy here: flat water inside the reef, a snorkel stop, lunch and a bar that stays open. These are the best sailing trips on the Riviera Maya, with the length of each sail, what is included, which ones are adults only, and which sunset runs justify the extra.

Luxury catamaran sailing from Cancun to Isla Mujeres with hotel pickup, open bar, snorkeling, and free island time.

“Great tour! Offering was clearly advertised, ride pickup from our hotel was communicated multiple times. We lucked out and had a perfect weather day. Snorkle and soak time was just enough. The boat crew was very fun, attentive, and gave tips on how to explore the island once we got there. Lunch provided was more than we'd expected and better than many other tours we've experienced.”

“I enjoyed it. Great and welcoming staff, extremely helpful. Tour guide was extremely helpful and he was a party all by himself 🤣 but it was great because whether you party or not, he kept the vibes up, not forced to do anything. He kept us all in line when we took a trip around Isla mujeres. But he does move fast so if you have a question or concern, voice it, he will give you the attention you need and he will stop and answer you and be present when answering. The picture guy took great pictures. Just give him your budget and he will make something work. He…”

Sail Bacalar’s Seven Colors Lagoon in a small group, with swim stops, included brunch snacks, and sunset-friendly timing options.

“Great tour! It was nice to only have a small group (about 6), there were two groups which set of on separate boats. Both of our crew were lovely and friendly. The water is beautiful, both areas we swum in were crystal clear. We also had plenty of time, it didn't feel rushed at all. Only thing to note (which I wasn't aware of) is that you can't wear sunscreen in the lagoon, you're asked to shower when you arrive if so. Some people had long sleeve tops to swim in, which I'd recommend as I got quite sunburnt.”

Catamaran day trip from Cancun to Isla Mujeres with guided snorkel at El Meco, open bar, buffet meal, and time on Playa Norte.

“The trip was beautiful. It was fun and the snorkeling was cool. The transportation was a little confusing but it ended up working out. At the end of the excursion the workers were hassling for pictures and hassling for tips. I mean really pushing. We didn’t enjoy the pictures and weren’t interested. They made the entire group uncomfortable because they were not happy with the tip, even though it wasn’t my group that didn’t tip well. The captain took his hat and was asking other members “that’s it?”, “thats my service was to you?” It just made everything unpleasant and uncomfortable. He ended up not helping us all off the…”

“This was definitely the highlight from my birthday trip! It was a very windy day so we weren’t able to do the full itinerary but they were very accommodating and made up for it. I think the Captain Francisco, Chef Valerie, & our Host Lester being around the same age group as us made it even better because we all got along very well & knew the same songs! I loved how everything was all inclusive, definitely worth the price! They surprised me with a delicious strawberry cake that was on theme for my friends & I wearing pink swimwear! Also the bed is comfy, I took a small nap…”
